Middle Child Music Inc. Launches The Baudelaire Label

First Release By Tangiers entitled The Family Myth in stores October 4th





Toronto, July 20, 2005 - Middle Child Music Inc, an artist management and publicity group, has announced the launch of Baudelaire, a new record label distributed by Outside Music.

The label's first release, the Tangiers' long anticipated "The Family Myth" will hit Canadian streets on October 4, with its American Release on Frenchkiss Records (Les Savy Fav, The Hold Steady, Thunderbirds Are Now!) on October 18. A North American tour will follow.


Middle Child Music Inc. (MCM) is headed by Evan Newman, former A&R and National Media Relations Manager at V2 Records Canada. With a thriving Management roster (Matthew Barber, Another Blue Door, Jill Barber, Tangiers and Bodega), and years of label experience, Newman has developed a keen understanding the ever-evolving music industry.


"I think there are a lot of people out there who have been waiting for a label like Baudelaire to come along. The majors are reducing the amount of new artist signings and there are only a few quality independent labels functioning right now. I've observed the way labels like Paper Bag and Art & Crafts have been successful, and I think with my label experience, management skills, and general care for the state of our music industry -- this label is just a natural next step."


Tangiers Josh Reichmann is excited to be part of Baudelaire's promising beginnings. 'We're really thrilled to be Baudelaire's first artist," said Reichmann. "MCM is a great company, and over the years that we've worked together, it's become clear that Evan really knows what he's doing. He's also got a fantastic sense of good music, which should provide for an amazing roster of artists."



Baudelaire aims to secure licensing agreements with international artists as well as developing domestic talent


Middle Child Music was founded as an artist management company in 2001 and also comprises a national publicity division, representing the artists on V2 Records Canada (The White Stripes, Blanche, Brendan Benson, Moby, Grandaddy, Josh Ritter etc) and Luaka Bop (Jim White, Los Amigos Invisibles, Shuggie Otis, Zap Mama).


Tangiers have released two critically acclaimed albums, "Hot New Spirits" (2003) and "Never Bring You Pleasure" (2004) on Sonic Unyon. "The Family Myth" was produced by Chris Zane (Calla, Ambulance Ltd) and recording was split between Toronto and New York City. Tangiers are represented by MCM's Artist Management division.


Outside Music distributes a collection of fine Canadian labels including Indica, Three Gut, Dependent, Mint, and it's in-house namesake label, as well as established international labels such as Barsuk, Domino, Ninja Tune, Saddle Creek, Six Degrees, Yep Roc and Warp.
